Based in the US, but targeting the up and coming, well educated and affluent Mexican market, they’ve found themselves an incredible niche to work within. There is a really wonderful opportunity for continued growth and the business can be run from anywhere in the world.

Tell us a little about yourself. What’s your background and how’d you come to start this business?

20 years starting businesses and I’m still a student.  My earlier ones failed miserably. I learned so much from them. Those painful lessons have paid me back many times over. The few big successes that I have enjoyed overshadowed the failures I encountered along the way. Made them feel almost insignificant. The painful lessons you will never forget. It’s like a guide for future endeavours. It has helped me in business and personal life.  

Can you provide a bit more detail on the ordering process? Are the orders shipped by you or your supply partners? Does the new owner need to be based in Mexico?

The new owner does not need to be based in Mexico. But, It would be ideal if the owner really wants to scale and hold more inventory.  The website can be changed to sell in dollars too which will open new doors.  I just haven’t done it myself. I ship mostly myself from Mexico. But, for a while I used brokers to receive my products and deliver them to FedEx or DHL in Mexico. They are easy to find. You can negotiate terms. They charge a flat fee. So 1 or 20 orders have the same cost. 

How have you marketed your store? What has worked and what hasn’t?

Yes, I do a 50/50 mix of google & facebook/instagram.  I used google smart shopping campaigns. Works good. I feel a normal shopping campaign could work even better. Simply no time. I also had a lot of success with facebook ads and retargeting campaigns. Instagram is also a big hit. They all work tbh. It’s what you put into it. 

How much time does it take to run the business, who else is needed on the team, and what is automated?

You need to put in about 25 hours or more. It’s just me right now, so it can certainly be done with just one person. I’ve worked from the beach before. I don’t do shipping myself. I just paid a broker and sent him the shipping labels.  I just process orders and stick to marketing, driving more traffic. It depends on your geographical location. Mexican buyers would be the most ideal.  But, you can literally run this business from anywhere in the world with an internet connection. For example, right now I’m at home in San Diego, California. 

Can you list a few opportunities for a potential new owner to continue growing the business?

Spend more time on the digital ads platforms. Get comfortable using the various tools. I just set up Adsense so that will increase profits just from the amount of traffic the site gets.
